the helsinki turban

April 25, 2008

we’ll always harbor a love for women who wear turbans in public. in this instance, mari goes where we could never go by pairing her turban with geeky-girl eyeglasses.

besides, anyone who associates prada with granny gear is A+ in our tatty spiral bound notebook!

Mari (30)

“All my clothes are second hand. I’ve modified the dress a bit. People call me a granny because I always wear old clothes. Nevertheless I dream of Prada and Miu Miu.
Lately I’ve been inspired by old Marimekko fashion pictures from the 60’s and the 70’s.”

Gorgeous, I like second hand and vintage. It gives me such pleasure to be covered in beautiful workmanship and good tailoring is very kind.
And apart from the pure joy of picking up Armani in the Cancer Research shop, or a little bit of Paul Smith in NOtting Hill HOmeless Charity shops; There is the after buzz which lasts when you mix with the school “yummy mummies” who look like they ran into House of Fraser covered in velcro and just bought whatever sticks. Bitchy? Yes. But very fun.
Gonna go wrap myself in second hand cashmere now to do the school run.
    xx

I adore her look. The velvet trench, the print dress–it’s all fantastic.
